Hank
Hello, friends! If you have been following me on social media you may have seen a sneak peek at the first image of Hank the Hamster. I am so excited to bring this little guy to life for you all! While Albert is generally for readers 3-6, Hank the Hamster is almost 2000 words and for readers generally 7-9. The sketches I received this past weekend look amazing, and I am anxiously awaiting the color images for review. I am hoping to have the book available tentatively for Spring 2025. So keep following the socials and checking the blog for updates!
What is Hank the Hamster about? Here is the first draft of the book summary for your review!
Hank the Hamster is a curious and adventurous little pet who lives in Emily’s bedroom. His golden-brown fur and bright eyes shine with excitement every time he is placed in his favorite toy—a clear plastic ball that lets him explore the house. One day, while Emily cleans his cage, Hank embarks on his usual rolling adventure.
However, his fun takes a turn when Emily’s mom accidentally sends Hank rolling outside during a vacuuming mishap. Outside, Hank encounters a parade of ants, playful squirrels mistaking him for a nut, and a boisterous dog named Bruno who chases him around like a toy. Despite the chaos, Hank’s desire to return home grows stronger.
After narrowly escaping Bruno, Hank finds his way back to the house but is blocked by the closed door. With determination, he squeezes through the cat door and scurries back to the safety of Emily’s room. When Emily discovers him, she lovingly places Hank into his freshly cleaned cage. Hank realizes that while adventure is exciting, nothing compares to the warmth and comfort of home.
Join Hank on his accidental adventure in this story that highlights themes of courage, perseverance, and the comfort of returning to familiar surroundings.
I am working on a new website just for Hank. You can check out the work in progress here.
